September 5 Blackflag Label Night: Stacey Pullen / Sergio Fernandez / Youcef Elaid + special guest Octave One [live]Blackflag label head and innovator from the second wave of Detroit techno Stacey Pullen plays every gig from the heart, seeking to surprise and engage, provide an unforgettable experience, and offer up his unique catalogue without predictability. Above all, from his earliest attempts under the mentorship of Detroit's legendary three: Derrick May, Juan Atkins and Kevin Saunderson, to the current day, Stacey Pullen has stayed true to his one goal: to become and to always be an innovator.
French-born Youcef Elaid was influenced by hip-hop culture in his beginnings, but always kept a taste for different genres of music. It was his 2011 move to London that reinforced his house influences and his appeal for the underground sound. He is supported by the likes of Marco Carola, Davide Squillace, and Blackflag chief Stacey Pullen.
Sergio Fernandez is one of the most renowned Spanish electronic artists with a reputation that spreads worldwide. With a style that varies from exquisite house to more intense tech house, his music is backed by heavyweights like Richie Hawtin and Carl Cox. With two albums to his name, Mob Rule (2008) and Angel or Demon (2010), both of which were critically acclaimed and a commercial success, and his latest track "Into The Deep" climbing up to a top five spot on the Beatport charts, his hard work in the studio has paid off, making him stand out as one of the leading names of the global electronic scene.
Octave One is the brainchild of Detroit natives and brothers, Lenny and Lawrence Burden. After arriving onto the electronic scene with "I Believe," featured on the monumental (10 Records) compilation Techno 2: The Next Generation (alongside Carl Craig, Marc Kinchen, and Jay Denham) in 1990, the duo began to release groundbreaking dance anthems on their own Detroit-based record label, 430 West Records. 2000 brought the most recognized Octave One release to date, "Blackwater,” which has appeared on over 30 compilation albums worldwide. Returning to the states after touring Europe this summer, fans are in for a techno treat during their live set at Verboten.

September 6 Eric Volta / The/Das / GuadaCosmic, psychedelic and extraordinary, Eric Volta’s music is as far out as the man behind it. Following the success of “Love Your Illusion” (which was named one of the Top 10 Best of 2013 by DJ Mag and Top 10 Charted Tracks of November 2013 on Resident Advisor), Eric Volta continues to satisfy eardrums with his release “Laying In My Garden Is Your Cold Soul” available now for free download here.
The/Das first sprung to life with their 2012 ‘Fresh Water’ EP, a collaboration with Life And Death’s Tale of Us. With the release of their debut EP 'Speak Your Mind Speak,' the Berlin based duo introduced their unique brand of "techno tenderness." The/Das keeps the buzz going with their latest album Freezer, available now on iTunes. Don’t miss the the New York debut of these rising artists on Life and Death.
Recognized for her creative sets ranging from house, dubstep, 80's classics, and funk and disco, Guada travels in time and space throughout genres. With her audible landscapes, she tells vibrant stories of love, lust, higher emotional forms and enduring happiness.

September 11 Let's Play House: Museum of Love / Tiger & Woods / Jacques RenaultDFA’s supergroup Museum of Love is the project of former LCD Soundsystem drummer Pat Mahoney and the Juan MacLean's Denis McNany aka Jee Day. With Mahoney on vocals and McNany (who also founded Run-Roc Records) on production, their sound is a little softer than the label's usual fare. Fans are waiting patiently for their debut, self-titled full-length album, available for preorder now on dfarecords.com.
DJ and production team Larry Tiger and David Woods have caused quite a stir. Looking to the future, while digging in the past, Tiger & Woods use both recognizable and exotic sources supplemented with original production to take you to undiscovered terrains that somehow feel like home. Self-described as "future boogie,” their work is built around tight electro rhythms and loops of samples that recall the disco and funk edits that became house music's foundational texts.
A classically-trained violinist who grew up in DC’s hardcore scene and cut his teeth working at Chicago’s legendary Gramophone Records, Jacques Renault is half of the Brooklyn club jammers Runaway and co-owner of the fantastic On The Prowl Records with Marcos Cabral; he’s also behind New York label Let’s Play House with the writer Nik Mercer. On his own as Jacques Renault, he is the creator of some of the biggest remixes of the last few years, turning tricks on tracks by Chairlift, Seun Kuti, Breakbot, Midnight Magic, Poolside, Holy Ghost, Buddy Holly, and YACHT.

September 12 Skreamizm: Skream / Artwork / Will Saul / CursesBritish DJ, producer, and original dubstepper Oliver “Skream” Jones has been on a roll since his 2009 Let's Get Ravey remix of La Roux's “In For The Kill” propelled the record to number two on the UK charts, and became the festival anthem of that year. In addition to gaining attention from the success of his two solo albums (the self-titled debut Skream! (2006), and Outside the Box (2010)), Skream has gained mainstream success as part of Magnetic Man, a live electronic music project with fellow dubstep pioneers Benga and Artwork. As he now forays into a house and techno, Skream continues to pioneer a uniquely rude, ravey and kinetically charged sound.
One-third of dubstep supergroup Magnetic Man, and a leading figure of the dubstep genre, Artwork hosts the Monday night podcast on London’s Rinse FM, continuing to establish himself as a mainstay of the scene.
Will Saul is the producer and DJ behind Simple Records and Aus Music. His sound is based in deep dub, disco, house, and techno with flashes of soul and irresistible melodies that hark back to the early days of Detroit (from Motown to Planet E). Over the years Will has gained an admirable reputation as not only a show-stopping DJ, but also a talented A&R and producer.
Following singles “Watch & Do” and “Deliver,” Curses expanded his fan base massively, and ended 2013 on a high note. His latest EP released through Safer At Night, ‘Heartbeat’ is available now on Beatport and iTunes - listen here. 2014 should prove to be an exciting year for the New York native.

September 13 Davide Squillace / Matthias Tanzmann / System of Survival / Nicola Zanatta // The Scarlett Room: Scarlett Etienne, Tara Brooks, Rambo SpringsteenAfter discovering electronic music on a trip to London, Naples-raised Davide Squillace was hooked. He has had productions grace the catalogs of the some of the finest labels in dance including Ovum, Sci+Tec, Morris Audio, and CMYK. Davide has been a resident DJ at clubs all over the world, and now comes to work the dancefloor at Verboten.
Ever since first emerging from his native Leipzig in the mid nineties, German producer, DJ and Moon Harbor label boss Matthias Tanzmann has helped to define and redefine deep and tech house through his releases and much talked about DJ sets. The breadth, depth and consistency of his Moon Harbour label over the years are also testament to Matthias Tanzmann’s dedication to electronic music. He might have been doing this for well over a decade, but in 2014 Matthias Tanzmann remains as influential as ever.
Dedicated purveyors of all that is good in house music, System of Survival are Pietro 'Bingo' De Lisi and Alex Carpentieri, known as long time veterans of the Ibiza underground scene. Living, playing, producing and releasing material together since ’89, they have a proven ability to carry a crowd and blend seamlessly between Bingo’s soul and funk background and Alex’s Detroit and Chicago techno-inspired sound.

September 18 Hyperdub Records 10th Anniversary: Mala / Kode9 / DJ Spinn b2b Taso / Ikonika / Scratcha DVA / Jubilee / Star EyesVerboten is honored to host the influential London label Hyperdub Records celebrating its first 10 years of remarkable electronic music helmed by Kode9, and honor the passing of the late DJ Rashad.
Whether operating solo or as one half of legendary outfit Digital Mystikz, Mala helped put dubstep on the musical map in the mid-'00s, not only as a producer and DJ, but also as the co-founder of the genre-defining DMZ label and club night with Coki and Loefah. Along the way, he also found the time to start up his own Deep Medi imprint. His work has undeniably influenced an entire generation of bass-loving artists.
Originally from Glasgow, but based in South London, Kode9 founded the Hyperdub label in 2004. His DJ sets and radio shows helped spread the early dubstep sound internationally. His sets now weave together an unpredictable, bass-heavy mix of house, garage, dubstep, grime, footwork, hip hop, R&B and techno.
DJ Spinn has been instrumental to the creation and evolution of Chicago juke music alongside the Teklife crew. He has released numerous albums, remixes, and sets, which have changed the way people think about house music. Since creating the no. 1 selling juke track of all time, "Bounce N Break Yo Back," DJ Spinn has become the figurehead of the local movement that is taking the world by storm.
Anastasios Ioannis Skalkos III aka Taso has been a member of Teklife since 2012. As a multi-instrumentalist, DJ, and producer who graduated with a degree in audio engineering, Taso has devoted the greater half of his life to his art. With solo and collaboration releases scheduled on Hyperdub, Tempa and Deep Medi Musik in 2014, this is one young gun to be on the lookout for.
Ikonika is one of the outstanding producers of her generation. Her 2008 debut “Please” announced a forward-thinking, highly melodic, twisted take on UK underground dance music. Equally accomplished is Ikonika the DJ. Her technical proficiency has taken her to bookings at clubs and festivals all across the world, and her live and studio sets journey from classic house and techno, to the freshest sounds of the underground.
Throughout his career Scratcha DVA has been immune to easy genre definitions, as a producer who has cut a joyful path through dance music, joining the dots between trends and styles into his colorful productions. His debut album, Pretty Ugly on Hyperdub (which featured Muhsinah, Vikter Duplaix, Zaki Ibrahim and others) and his dancefloor-ready ‘Fly Juice’ EP showed off his ability to make standout house hybrids hits.

September 19 Somewhere in BKN: Carl Craig / Tiefschwarz / La Fleur / Illich MujicaCarl Craig is described as a creative visionary, a groundbreaking electronic music icon, an inspirational artist, an esteemed Grammy-nominated composer, a world-class DJ and an ambassador for his native Detroit. Yet the common thread that runs through Craig’s broad musical canon and creative projects, whicn includes his own label Planet E, is a resounding fascination with futurism. Carl Craig has cultivated a unique path as an artist, entrepreneur and civic leader, guided by his tendency toward forward thinking.
Formed in 1997, Tiefschwarz is comprised of German brothers and Souvenir label founders, Alexander and Sebastian Schwarz. While nurturing their careers as international DJs playing high-profile venues across the globe, they built up an impressive remix repertoire, including reworks for the likes of Cassius, The Rapture, Missy Elliott, Kelis and their personal heroes Masters At Work. The deep house duo cemented their status as internationally recognized producers with their remix of Spektrum “Kinda New” which was a worldwide hit, and their critically acclaimed 2005 album, Eat Books.
La Fleur started her working life as a pharmacist, but despite her understanding of laboratories, her passion was for a different kind of mixing. From there her DJ career was born. La Fleur’s sound is simultaneously house and techno, classic and futuristic alike. With a slew of cutting-edge club productions under her belt garnering praise and attention from producers like Ian Pooley, and a residency at Berlin’s Watergate underway, she knows how to speak to a crowd and – just as importantly – she knows how to make them move.

September 20 Bespoke Musik: Andhim / Matthias Kaden / Dense + Pika / Sei aMade up of Simon Haehnel and Tobias Müller, the self-described “Super House” duo Andhim have been honing their musical skills since their teenage years, drawing influence from a background in hip hop to create an energetic and soulful style of electronic dance music. With their latest release, "Melte," the pair continues to hold up their reputation of transforming the decks into instruments themselves to create an extended sphere of music, which separates them from the standard DJs.
Inspired and motivated by the first house and techno DJs at Bioxultra in Gera, Matthias Kaden’s music is both distinctly ambitious and refreshing. Following the house music of the '90s, he works thoroughly to create new sound structures. He uses different percussion elements to produce an enjoyable rhythm, which communicates with its audience in a very particular way. With a playful approach, he creates an incredible repertoire of feelings that reproduces within the crowd.
Emerging mid-2011 with a series of hand-stamped white-label releases, Dense & Pika have since become a must-check facet of true, modern underground techno. Coveted by the likes of Blawan, DJ Koze, Jackmaster, Sven Vath and Scuba, who signed the duo for a series of 12"s for his Hotflush imprint, Dense & Pika's output has made them ones to watch.
Glaswegian DJ and producer Andy Graham aka Sei A is a fusionist, someone who melts bass with techno, house with garage and beyond. Playing all over Ibiza, Taiwan and the best clubs around Europe, Sei A is a staple in the global electronic conversation. With a full length artist album due on Aus Music in 2014, Sei A will likely prove to be a real craftsmen of sound, someone who can tell stories and paint mental pictures as well as lay down engaging grooves.

September 21 Push The Night: Robert Babicz [live]Robert Babicz’s musical output is inspiring and staggering. A true one-man operation, he writes, records and performs solo, tailoring the music he creates to the cities he visits, coloring his emotive, unique take on electronica with a very human feel.

September 25 Zeitgeist: Ben Pearce / Jonas Rathsman / Redlight / Bruce TantumTo many, Ben Pearce’s name is synonymous with “What I Might Do,” his platinum selling, deep-house debut that dominated club floors across the world in 2012, while garnering support from the likes of Jamie Jones, Heidi and Pete Tong. With his vast musical knowledge and ability to play across a wide range of musical genres, his dominance of clubland has only just begun.
An integral member of the French Express crew, and declared ‘Future Star of 2013’ by Pete Tong, Jonas Rathsman seemed to appear out of nowhere with his huge summer anthem “Bringing You Down” earlier last year. Although he may have broken out onto the scene together with his close friend Fredrik Nyberg, aka DJ NIBC, releasing material under the alias Stuffa, it was the decision to release productions under his own name on French Express in late 2011 that proved to be the turning point in his career. Since finding his own genre-defining sound early on with his first release for French Express, “Love Is My Middle Name,” it is clear that this versatile Swede is most definitely here to stay.

September 26 John Digweed / jozif / Brad MillerOne of the planet’s most popular DJs, John Digweed’s sets never fall out of favor with clubbers the world over. From ethereal, swirling cinematic soundscapes to energy-infused bass-bothering tech growlers, a new generation of clubbers are learning what we already know -- that there’s nothing quite like being locked into a John Digweed set.
A name that has been gaining increasing attention from the who’s who of the electronic music community is London-based DJ and producer jozif. Since his 2010 releases on Wolf + Lamb and Vitalik gained mass support alongside an RA podcast mixed entirely of his own productions and edits, he has been charming the pants off the international circuit with his productions and DJ sets alike.
A staple in the underground scene for over a decade, Brad Miller has played alongside some of the biggest artists in dance music. His Push The Night events have seen multiple residencies at award-winning clubs including Verboten, with his podcast of the same name breaking the Top 20 on iTunes. With over a decade of experience both behind the decks and on the front lines of the industry, Brad Miller has fans on the edge of their seats wondering what he will do next.

September 27 Goldie / Dieselboy / Empress / Jakes / Double Dragon / Dave Shichman / Hosted by MC Jakes + Digga Bruck ShotMetalheadz head honcho Goldie was introduced to the scene in the early 90s, and quickly settled in to a sound of his own. After landing a contract with Pete Tong's offshoot FFRR, part of London Records, he released his debut Timeless, which sold over 250,000 copies, and made history for drum and bass music. Although Goldie’s fame stretches beyond music, when he is behind the decks, listeners are always in for a treat. He is behind the latest installment in Ministry of Sound's Masterpiece series, available now on iTunes. Listen to a mini-mix here.
Dieselboy is one of America’s most iconic underground bass music curators and pioneers. He was the first drum and bass artist to chart a single on Billboard’s dance chart with “Invid” in 2000. His complex, dramatic, high voltage, take-no-prisoners sets have created legions of loyal diehard fans around the world.
Jakes is known as the voice of TC's smash hits “Deep”, “Drink” and “Mindkiller,” as well as the leader of Bristolian dubstep crew H.E.N.C.H, and to musical historians he is one of the most interesting vocalists that underground British music can lay claim to. Never afraid to break from tradition and roll with his own flow, Jakes' voice has become one of the most recognizable in the game. Within a few years, Jakes has gone from being one of the big name MCs of the drum and bass world to now being one of the most talked about producers in dubstep.

September 28 Bespoke: Daniel Bortz + FriendsDaniel Bortz got his training as a producer with the Munich label Pastamusik with whom he released his first recording in 2007. Since then, he’s been refining his sound between crate digging, house nostalgia, sample insanity, and a healthy dose of eclecticism. Be it ‘80s new wave, ‘90s West Coast hip hop, disco or dance mania, Daniel Bortz brings things together as he fuses his own world of sound for today’s dance floor.
