Interview with AudioFun
AudioFun
is a shining example of how to go about your business. Matthew Corry has taken
the break handed to him by Southern Fried and hasn’t stopped running with it
yet. A back catalogue of releases gaining support from a list of DJs that would
make a lesser man weep is reinforced with a next level talent in the DJ box and
a willingness to have fun. All of this has made his continued rise within the
scene all the more satisfying to follow; reap what you sow and all that. There
seems to be no sign of his foot coming off the gas anytime soon, how much can
this man fit into 2013?
How goes it Matt? Feeling festive yet?
YES! I turn into such a big kid at Christmas.
I’ve had my tree up since the end of November and my puppy has been loving
that. I need some more Xmas jumpers though.
Your latest single “Come Together” is touching
down on 17th December. Can you give us your own synopsis and do you
still get a tad nervous in the lead up to a release date?
It’s definitely my favourite piece of work to
date. It’s been working really well in my sets and been getting great feedback.
I don’t really get nervous before the release, it’s more before the promo
mailout. I think it’s more important that the track gets good support from DJs
as ultimately it means that more people will hear it when these DJs play them
at their gigs.
Do you have to change your approach to a track
when you work with a vocalist?
Not really! Come Together started life as an
instrumental but I felt that a vocal would set it off better. Thankfully the people
at Vicious are friendly with Sean’s management and they put us together.

With so many pop stars turning to producers
within our scene these days; who would be your ideal artist to produce a chart
smash for?
Yeah the whole pop thing seems like the natural
progression. I’ve done a few pop things but not under my name. One
actually went to number in a few countries across Europe and South America,
which was weird. I’d love to work with Ellie Goulding, her voice is amazing.
November saw the first episode of “Fun With
Friends” go online, with so much choice in that department these days, why
should people be loading your podcast onto their iPods? Can you reveal some of
the “Friends” that will be joining you?
My first one is going to be my good friend Junior
J – he’s relatively new on the scene but has a residency at one of my favourite
clubs in the world, Lush in Ireland. His productions are great too and he has
some releases coming out on huge labels in the near future.

You also recently revealed you will be returning
to Northern Ireland for your New Years Eve gig this year, buzzed about it?
Yeah I always enjoy playing at Lush! It’s where
it all began for me and where I started clubbing. It’s great to be asked to
play there on the biggest party night of the year. Plus I’m mates with the
other DJs on the lineup (Kryder and DOD) so it has the potential to be a little
bit messy….

The afterparty is still a huge part of club culture
and I see it as a gigging DJ’s chance to cut loose. Do you like to delve into
some madness now and then? If so, who would be your ultimate DJ to soundtrack
the party?
Ha! Well… It all depends on who’s asking the
question! If I’ve an early flight etc the next day then I try not to but I
roped in to them more often than not. I’d normally prefer to just have a few
drinks in the hotel after. Ideally the soundtrack would be provided by Axwell
or Steve Angello doing one of their poolside sets.
Unfortunately it normally consists of hungover
travelling! I’d prefer if it consisted of puppy cuddles, Wagamama and Xmas
films!
